On July the 24th, The Martinez Academy of Arms held its first open foil competition. While the turnout was not as large as we had hoped, we feel that the event was a success. It was a learning experience for us, and we plan to host more competitions in the future in various weapons.

We would like to congratulate David Achilleus for placing first in the competition. It was apparent from the beginning that he came focused and determined to win, and his resolution stood him in good stead. We would also like to congratulate David Laloum for winning the award for best form.

Finally, we would like to sincerely thank all the judges and directors, as well as everyone who helped set up and run the event. Special thanks go out to Dayn DeRose from South Mountain Martial Arts Academy and to Master Rey Galang and his associates from Bakbakan International for their much-appreciated assistance in judging and officiating the event.
