Italian Rapier

Illustration from Capo Ferro

Italian rapier is characterized by its low postures and varied guard and arm positions. It is a thrust-and-cut school that developed out of the earlier cut-and-thrust technique. Early emphasis was on circular form, which later developed into a more linear style. Like all fencing, it is a civilian martial art, designed with both offense and defense in mind.

Maestro Martinez and two of his students did an impromptu demonstration of Italian rapier, because Maître Crown could not be present for his scheduled demonstration due to the inclement weather. Mr.Paul MacDonald DDS, assisted us in the Italian rapier exhibition bouts.
