PHYSICAL AWARENESS WORKSHOP

An examination of movement both cooperative and adversarial

April 25, 2010, New York, NY

This unique, absolutely unprecedented three-hour workshop will instruct you in the movements of three related Hispanic arts:

This workshop explores the commonalities and distinctions of three styles - and three distances - of “partnered movement”.

In particular, this workshop will present the underlying aesthetics and kinesthetics of adversarial and cooperative interaction common to these three related, yet entirely distinct, Hispanic arts.

Starting with the extended arm distance of the Spanish Rapier, to the bent elbow distance of the Spanish Navaja, and concluding with the physical contact of open/closed-embrace Argentine Tango, participants of this workshop will learn the subtleties of footwork, weight transference, initiations/invitations, and changes of direction, and ultimately acquire the body sensitivity and physical awareness, which are foundational to these three Hispanic arts.
